Statement of the Police and Crime Commissioner
The police service is dependent upon the use of information systems for the efficient and effective delivery of services and strategic and administrative functions. The security of information is paramount and must comply with relevant legislation. This applies equally to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
The Police and Crime Commissioner is subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and has issued a Publication Scheme specifying the classes of information that will be released and the arrangements for making information available to the public.
The Police and Crime Commissioner is subject also to the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 that requires organisations to register with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) details about the processing of personal information they hold. An appropriate entry has been registered with the ICO (www.ico.gov.uk).
Suffolk Constabulary has in place policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, confidentiality and availability of information. These apply also to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. The Information Security Policy and associated policies communicate to all officers and staff that information is a valuable asset and that everyone is responsible and accountable for its protection.
