Technical information about this website’s accessibility
[Name of organisation] is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
-
Non-text content Some figures and images in PDF documents do not have a text alternative (ALT text), or use a blank or generic label like "image" or "unlabelled graphic." This means people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
-
Image file names as alt text Some images use a file name or a local file path (e.g., a path to a .jpg on a local drive) as their alt text rather than describing the image's function. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
-
Missing document structure and tags A number of PDFs are not tagged to be accessible by screen readers. This makes it difficult for users of assistive technology to navigate the document's structure. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).
-
Missing document titles Several critical documents have blank title fields in their document properties. This prevents users from identifying the document's content quickly. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.2 (Page Titled).
-
Language of the document The default language of several PDF documents has not been set in the document properties. This prevents screen readers from pronouncing words correctly. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 3.1.1 (Language of Page).
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We will carry out regular reviews of our website content to ensure ongoing accessibility. Working with accessibility specialists, we will make every effort to ensure that all newly added PDF documents are as accessible as possible, and we will explore the feasibility of providing HTML versions in the future.
We will also review and improve the accessibility of legacy documents. However, due to resourcing constraints and the complexity of this work, these improvements will be made gradually. Our review process will continue to cover all required published information, including the accessibility of news stories, videos, PDFs, and Word documents, and we will make corrections where needed.
Whenever we identify, or are informed, that a document does not meet accessibility guidelines, we will provide an accessible version as quickly as possible.
