New officers ready to serve Suffolk communities following Passing Out ceremony

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Suffolk, Tim Passmore, has welcomed 13 new police officers to Suffolk Constabulary following a Passing Out ceremony held at Police Headquarters in Martlesham.

The new recruits, who have successfully completed 22 weeks of intensive training, formally took their oaths of office in front of proud family members, friends, colleagues and invited guests before beginning their policing careers in communities across Suffolk.

Joining Mr Passmore at the ceremony was Detective Chief Superintendent Becky Mears, who congratulated the officers on reaching this milestone and praised the dedication shown throughout their training.

Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Passmore said: "I am delighted to welcome another group of recruits who are now fully-fledged police officers and ready to serve the people of Suffolk.

“What is particularly encouraging is the wide range of backgrounds and experiences these recruits bring with them.

“Among this cohort are people who have worked in the military, hospitality, retail and a variety of other professions. Those different skills and life experiences will help them connect with and serve our communities.

"It was also wonderful to see so many parents, partners, family members and friends attending.

“This is a unique and special occasion, and their support has played a huge part in helping these officers achieve this milestone.

“We must continue working hard to prevent crime, protect vulnerable people and ensure those who commit crimes are brought to justice and these new recruits will play an important part in helping us achieve those goals.

"We are continuing to recruit and strengthen policing across Suffolk and I wish each of these officers every success in their careers."

Detective Chief Superintendent Becky Mears said: "This is the first Passing Out parade I have attended since joining the Constabulary and it has been a privilege to see these officers reach such an important stage in their careers.

"They are our future leaders and the people who will go out every day to build strong relationships with local people and partners and do their absolute best to deliver exceptional policing across Suffolk.

"This ceremony is also a celebration of the training team, whose hard work, expertise and perseverance have helped these recruits successfully complete 22 weeks of demanding basic training.

“They should be incredibly proud of what these officers have achieved."

One of the new officers, PC Nathan Rash, spoke of his pride at completing the training programme and embarking on a new career in policing.

He said: "I am incredibly proud and so is my family.  It means the world to me to have reached this point and I am excited to start the role.

"I previously worked in an office environment, but I wanted a career where I could serve the community and make a real difference.

"The training has been intense and challenging.

“We've taken part in action-packed scenarios and learned a huge amount about legislation and police procedures.

"It has been a massive learning curve but it has prepared us well for what lies ahead."

Both Mr Passmore and Detective Chief Superintendent Mears also thanked the Constabulary's Learning and Training team for their dedication and commitment in preparing the new officers for operational policing.

The new officers will now begin their roles in policing teams across Suffolk, where they will continue their development while helping to keep communities safe and support victims of crime throughout the county.
