PCC’s statement on Government decision to abolish PCCs

Following the Government’s decision to abolish the role of the PCCs, Tim Passmore, who has been Suffolk’s PCC since November 2012 said:

“I am really disappointed that the Government has announced it will abolish Police and Crime Commissioners in 2028. Whilst this will not directly affect Suffolk as we are moving to a Mayoral model next year, I feel for PCC’s of all colours across the country, who are doing a fantastic job supporting their communities.

“Suffolk is in a good place. We have the third lowest crime in the country, over the past 13 years we have allocated more money to victims than ever before and increased police officers numbers significantly. PCC’s are the voice of the public and I truly believe this has given our communities a real opportunity to impact how policing is delivered in the county.

“The announcement has come out of the blue today and unbelievably there has been absolutely no consultation with PCCs and Deputy Mayors. Detail is scant so I will watch this carefully to ensure Suffolk communities continue to receive the efficient and effective police service they deserve.”
