8 April 2013 PCC welcomes community to Haverhill district panel Tim Passmore, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Suffolk staged the first in a series of District Panel meetings in Haverhill on Friday (April 19). Tim invited representatives from community groups and businesses to the meeting at the Haverhill Arts Centre, High Street, Haverhill and was delighted with the response. The forum of 18 community representatives discussed the PCC’s plans for policing in the west of the county, particularly in the St Edmundsbury area. Tim talked through his recently published Police and Crime Plan and Sgt Peter Ferrie, form the local Safer Neighbourhood team gave an update on the Constabulary’s performance across the area but particularly in Haverhill. Tim said, “These panel meetings are my opportunity to listen to the views of those who represent people living and working in the local community. I believe we all have a part to play in making Suffolk a safe, vibrant and thriving community where people want to live, work, travel and invest and I rely on the support of the community to tell me straight how they think they are being served by the Constabulary. “I wholeheartedly believe that by working together we can make Suffolk even safer, so I am grateful to engaging directly with the local community in St Edmundsbury to hear their views first-hand.” He added, “I believe that neighbourhood policing is the cornerstone of policing and I will ensure that local Safer Neighbourhood Teams, which includes officers, PCSOs and Specials, will remain visible and accessible in the heart of the communities they serve.” This meeting is part of a wider community engagement programme which will include a series of public and business meetings across the county.
