Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner and the Chief Constable of Suffolk Constabulary are seeking to appoint independent members of the joint Audit Committee.

The purpose of the Committee is to provide independent advice and recommendations to the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Chief Constable on the adequacy of the governance and risk management frameworks, the internal control environment and financial reporting, thereby helping to ensure efficient and effective assurance arrangements are in place.

We are seeking applications from people who can demonstrate:
• Senior level experience of scrutinising financial information and processes;
• Understanding of public sector finances and its regulatory environment;
• Knowledge of best practice in audit and corporate governance;
• Strong understanding of risk management and control.

The Committee meets around four times per year at Police Headquarters, Martlesham, with meetings lasting approximately 3 hours. Alongside reading of documents in advance of meetings, there may also be informal briefing/training sessions.

Appointments will be made on a four-year term starting from 1 January 2024.

Members will receive an allowance of £300 per meeting and reasonable travel and other expenses in connection with their role.
